Concentration is Humberto Brenes' Key to Success
Humberto Brenes is a professional poker player who believes that talent is not the key to make one self successful. Of course, talent is a vital factor but more than anything else, this professional poker player believes that one must master the art of concentration in order to achieve success. Well, we better believe what he says because concentration seems to be very effective for him. He has been applying such philosophy ever since he started playing poker and true enough, he has been one of the successful professional poker players in the world.
Born on May 8, 1951, Humberto Brenes currently lives in San Jose, Costa Rica with his three children and wife. He learned how to play poker at an early age of seven years old and it was his father who taught him how to play it. However, during his teenage years, he was focused on playing baccarat. And it was during those years too when his career in gambling started.
When he reached his early twenties though, Humberto Brenes decided to shift to poker. He was playing as an amateur poker player until he was challenged to compete against professional poker players. He decided to accept the challenge without hesitation. Luckily, he finished fourth, which was the beginning of his career in the poker industry.
It was in 1974 when Humberto Brenes started to join poker events. In 1988, poker fans and players started to recognize this professional poker player as he began to be a regular player of various poker events and tournaments. Since then, he has become one of the popular professional poker players. What makes him even more popular is his fashion style whenever he faces his opponents at the poker tables. He always wears a visor, he is fond of wearing two pairs of eyeglasses at the same time, and he always comes to casinos and gambling facilities in tracksuits of different striking colors.
His fashion style may seem funny but no one will ever laugh at his style of playing poker. In 1993, Humbreto Brenes earned two World Series of Poker bracelets, which came from his victory from the Limit Texas Hold'em and Pot Limit Omaha events conducted by the World Series of Poker. Aside from such achievements, he also tied with professional poker player Phil Helmuth Jr. at the World Series of Poker held in 2006.
In other poker events, Humberto Brenes experienced defeating professional poker player Erik Seidel at the Jack Binion 2002 World Poker Open. He also reached the final tables of the World Poker Tour three times.
The success of this professional poker player is not limited to the subject of poker. He is also a mechanical engineer who graduated from the University of Costa Rica. He owns a television station, a construction company, and restaurants. All these achievements are attributed to his ability to concentrate on the things that he loves doing.
